Staches opens up about main inspirations, latest single ‘Haunting’ and more: Interview

Taking listeners on the most emotive of musical journeys, Staches is the epitome of an act that has been mastering his craft to the utmost of perfection. Incorporating a variety of elements in each of his productions, the Panama-born DJ/Producer ensures nothing less than the most enticing of vibes, with each release, further illustrating the undeniable musical prowess that he possesses.

Transcending boundaries through his love for music, Staches has been influenced by the likes of RL Grime, Juelz and Pluko when just naming a few, whilst his versatile nature becomes evident through his use of various genres when creating music that directly resonates with its audiences. An artist to watch indeed, we could not be any more thrilled to be joined by the man of the moment, as he opens up about main inspirations, the origin of his style of play, his latest single ‘Haunting,’ his upcoming EP, future plans and so much more.

Hello and thank you for joining us! Could you provide us with an insight on the main inspirations/influences that led to your chosen career pathway in music?

“My journey in music, and art in general has been shaped by a lot of influences. I was born and raised in Panama, so I was “formed” with not only my Latin heritage but a lot of influences from the US as well, so I was listening to pretty much every type of music from the get-go, Reggaeton, Salsa, Punk, Hip-Hop, Merengue, Anime music. Just like Panama, a melting pot of music. Eventually, I ended up enjoying Electronic Music the most out of everything else, I could understand the feeling conveyed by music without lyrics, just raw emotion made with computer sounds. I always struggled with expressing myself through words and electronic music became a path I could pursue, given my physical limitations, and a way of self-expression I didn’t know existed.”

Transcending genres with each of your endeavours, we would like to know how your signature sound came to be?

“My signature sound is a reflection of my diverse musical background and influences. I’ve always compared my approach at making music with Super Smash Bros. My favorite videogame, I like using a lot of characters but have my mains, likewise with music, I like to explore a lot of subgenres and sounds, but focus more on Bass Music, Emotional House, and Trap. Getting inspiration from artists like RL Grime, Pauline Herr, Juelz, Pluko, Demo Tapes, as well as some of my homies like Helloworld, Rommi and Matt Barri. I aim to create a sonic experience that resonates with listeners on a deep emotional level.”

Leaving no doubt to the imagination, your music emits raw emotion and hits right in the feels. Could you provide us with an outlook on your identity, and the message you set out to convey through your productions?

“My music is a reflection of my journey as an artist and as a human being. Through raw emotion and introspective lyrics, I strive to convey the universal themes of resilience, growth, and self-discovery. My identity is rooted in authenticity, and I hope to inspire others to embrace their own unique stories and experiences through my productions. I want to become that lighthouse that shows a path any artist, any person can navigate through.”

Congratulations on the release of ‘Haunting.’ We would like to know the main thought process behind this track, as well as the message it portrays?

“‘Haunting’ emerged from a place of emotional depth and introspection. The track explores the haunting echoes of heartbreak and loss, capturing the intensity of these emotions through haunting melodies and evocative lyrics. I was ghosted a few times, not only by romantic interests but friends as well; the passing of my father which I think opened the door for me to embrace being vulnerable and making me understand that pain is a reminder that being alive is about feeling. ‘Haunting’ serves as a reminder that beauty can be found even in our darkest moments, and that healing is possible through art, and the power of music.”

With ‘Echoes of Emotion’ in the works, could you talk us through the main inspiration behind this body of work, as well as what fans can expect from your upcoming EP?

“‘Echoes of Emotion’ is a deeply personal project that delves into the complexities of human emotion. Inspired by my own experiences and the shared struggles of others, the EP explores themes of loss, resilience, growth, and self-discovery. It doesn’t show my life as a disabled artist, but as a person and I think that’s why people can identify themselves with it, whatever you are fighting through. Fans can expect a sonic journey that traverses a wide range of emotions and soundscapes, from introspective ballads to high-energy anthems, all unified by a common thread of authenticity and vulnerability.”

Garnering support on the most constant of levels, we would like to know the overall feel of your music being recognised by fans and peers alike?

“It’s incredibly humbling to see my music resonate with fans and peers alike. The support I’ve received has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation, driving me to continue pushing the boundaries of my craft. Knowing that my music has reached that professional level I only dreamed of a few years ago is just priceless.”

With 2024 in full flow, we would like to know what the future holds for Staches, always in terms of new music and live performances?

“In 2024, I’m excited to continue exploring new sonic territories and pushing the boundaries of my creativity. People can expect a series of captivating releases that showcase my evolution as an artist, as well as upcoming live performances to showcase my upcoming songs and my homies’ as well! Hopefully some collabs along the way too. I can’t wait to share this journey with my fans every step of the way!”
