Home Industry Why Soundcloud Turned Blue

Why did Soundcloud’s logo turn blue all of a sudden? The world-renowned platform has recently updated its logo on both the website and mobile browser interfaces. This has let the internet buzzing, as the iconic orange branding has been a key element of the platform since its 2007 launch. This sudden change left many with a negative opinion of the new approach; many looking to simply understand why this happened in the first place.

So why the change?

Soundcloud has temporarily changed the logo to promote Billie Eilish’s new album entitled Hit Me Hard And Soft. The relationship between Eilish and Soundcloud dates back to 2015; when her landmark hit “Ocean Eyes” was released.

“Being able to celebrate Billie and recognize her SoundCloud superfans who have been there since day one feels like a full circle moment.” Soundcloud’s CEO Eliah Seton stated.

“From 2015 when she first leaned into SoundCloud to share her music and connect with fans, to today’s release of Hit Me Hard And Soft for those same fans and more… this is what it’s all about – giving artists unparalleled access to connect and share through music.”

The platform will be granting all users access to the 10-track album regardless of their premium membership status. Hit Me Hard And Soft was released on May 17, 2024, on all major streaming platforms.

While not common, this is not the first time a distribution platform has partnered with an artist to promote their new album. In 2014, U2 partnered with Apple to push Songs of Innocence to all iTunes customers (and was met with severe backlash). While Soundcloud and Billie Eilish’s promotional tactic is not nearly as invasive of a change, it certainly has the internet buzzing.
