While he was born Paul Spencer, he was better known by his stage name Dario G which saw him score global success with his music and productions. Unfortunately, the musician lost his battle with rectal cancer this week.

Dario G began back in the 1990s when Paul met Scott Rosser while the two were studying in Manchester. The duo would eventually set up a home studio and invite a third member, Stephen Spencer, to join in. The trio achieved success in 1997 when their single, Sunchyme, sold over 600,000 copies in the UK. Building upon the momentum of their breakthrough hit, they released Carnaval De Paris, which also earned them a top-five spot on the charts. The song was further bolstered by becoming the unofficial anthem of the 1998 World Cup in Paris and would be re-released for the 2002 tournament.

Although the group continued to have a run of successful singles, Scott and Stephen eventually left the project, leaving Paul to maintain the Dario G legacy on his own. Unfortunately, Paul revealed his Stage 4 rectal cancer diagnosis last June while encouraging his fans to stay positive cause he planned on doing the same. Over the last year, he released Savour The Miracle Of Life to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Paul documented his treatment process throughout via social media and was even hoping to return to the stage on May 25th at Chris Moyles’ 90s Hangover concert but pulled out due to health concerns.

Sadly, Paul Spencer lost his battle with cancer today as his family revealed in a post via Instagram. We here at We Rave You send our love and condolences to his friends and family at this sad time but will look to his music to celebrate the incredible career and impact of Dario G.
