Deadmau5 vs Spotify: “I’m about to pull my catalog from these f**king vultures”

Deadmau5 recently criticized Spotify over CEO Daniel Ek’s claims about zero-cost content creation.

Well, it looks like veteran DJ & Producer, Deadmau5 is not happy with the streaming giant Spotify. Spotify’s CEO, Daniel Ek, dropped a tweet that got a lot of artists riled up. He basically said that creating content these days costs next to nothing back in May. He posted:

“ Today, with the cost of creating content being close to zero, people can share an incredible amount of content. This has sparked my curiosity about the concept of long shelf life versus short shelf life. While much of what we see and hear quickly becomes obsolete, there are timeless ideas or even pieces of music that can remain relevant for decades or even centuries.

Almost 2 months later, when the news reached Deadmau5, he wasn’t having any of it. He fired back, saying it’s taken him over 25 years of his life to create his music. That’s a whole lot of time and effort! And he pointed out that a big chunk of the money he makes goes straight to Spotify.

But Deadmau5 didn’t stop there. When a fan chimed in on Instagram, he replied with a real zinger: “I’m about to pull my catalog from these f**king vultures, enough’s enough.” It’s not just Deadmau5 either. Artists worldwide are giving Spotify the side-eye after Ek’s comments. Seems like the streaming platform might need to do some damage control if they want to keep their artists happy.
