Diplo being investigated over illegal ‘party’ in Ibiza

Diplo helped to organize and perform a show in Ibiza on Monday. Now, he is being investigated by the City council and Policía Local de Sant Josep.

Diplo helped to organize an event in which the artist would play on the shores of Ibiza’s beautiful Cala D’Hort. The event was advertised on social media and once the event began, even more video surfaced of the event in which Diplo can be seen playing for a relaxed crowd. As the footage made the rounds online, it came to the attention of Sant Josep de sa Talaia City Council and Policía Local de Sant Josep who followed up with an investigation into the event.

The City Council and town’s mayor, Vincent Roig, announced they would be looking into “possible crimes that may have been incurred in order to act accordingly.”

The Ibiza Leisure Association released a parallel statement which shunned the party which was hosted in protected land. The area the party was hosted on is reported to be a “sensitive area of the island”. The Association’s statement continued:

“The space where this event was held is a Protected Area by the European Union through the Natura 2000 Network, in addition to a Natural Area of Special Interest, among other figures of environmental protection.” read the press release. “A vulnerable area in which this type of illegal activities promote the risk of fires, noise problems, waste, etc and, of course, endanger the integrity of the people attending.”

It is uncertain whether or not Diplo had been in contact with local authorities and if he had received authorization to host the party. As of the writing of this article, Diplo has not commented and has not been formally charged.
