British DJ, DJ Pressplay is adding a new feature to his DJing business by creating a price list for song requests at parties.

If you have ever worked as a DJ for any special gathering, then you know that the playlist for that specific event is crucial. Unlike a concert, this music is usually controlled by the hiring party and the guests. However, that sometimes leads to having to ward off some bizarre song requests from the crowd because even though you are there to grant the crowd’s wishes, one song could kill the mood of the dance floor. It is the DJ’s job to make sure all the requests flow, but there are instances in which a person is persistent on having their song played. DJ Pressplay from Colchester has implemented a plan to counteract this problem, a song request price list.

Colin Gingell-Good is a resident DJ at Coda in Essex, England, who has experienced plenty of song requests in his 17 years in the industry. While most people who ask to play a song are polite about it and give the degression to the DJ on if it’s the right fit for the night, others are very demanding in their choice and will not take no for an answer. For those instances, Gingell-Good has enacted a new request price list that would make guests open up their wallets if they are deadset on hearing their song in the night.

Some people don’t understand why we DJs do this, and that we are playing to keep the vibe going. It is more for those people who do not take no for an answer and to keep from having discussions as to why I won’t play a song.

Prices on the list include a £100 fee for songs that don’t fit the night, £50 for birthday requests, £500 for insisting you know more than the DJ and £100 for wanting your song played next before you leave. However, songs that fit the night, as well as just enjoying the music that is playing come free of charge. There is also another list he has featured that states the prices of specific songs. For instance, ‘Sex on Fire’ by Kings of Leon would cost £250, ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis is £500 and ‘Mr. Brightside’ by The Killers is £1000.

The list is supposed to be taken as a joke, according to DJ Pressplay, but also works quite well, as he has stated since putting up the signs that his requests for certain songs have dropped tremendously.
