Hardwell celebrates the promotion of local football team NAC Breda with a full hardstyle set: Watch

Hardwell is known for promoting and showing nothing but pure love for his hometown Breda, which was more than evident on Sunday when Breda’s local football team NAC Breda was promoted to the elite Dutch football competition, Eredivisie, after being absent since 2019.

In 2019, Breda’s local football team NAC Breda was relegated from Eredivisie to Eerste Divisie after finishing the season bottom of the table with an abysmal 23 points. Fast forward 5 years later and they are back where they belong after a thrilling two-leg tie against Excelsior which ended 7-6. And what better way to celebrate the promotion than inviting Breda’s golden child Hardwell to play out a special set for the ecstatic supporters and players of NAC Breda? Many of us would have expected the 2-time #1 DJ in the world to replicate some of his most recent sets, including his Ultra Miami headline performance, but he pleasantly surprised everyone when he decided to spin a full hardstyle set, including a very special remix.

The set, which was live-streamed on YouTube, is something everyone would’ve expected Hardwell to play on, for example, Defqon.1. Instead, he treated the Breda crowd with arguably the hardest and fastest set he has ever conjured. If you look at the tracklist, it almost exclusively consists of remixes, including a special Hardwell remix for NAC Breda’s official club anthem by Albert Brosens & Orkest Gaby Dirne, with which he started the celebration performance. As for other notable tracks and remixes, he played hardstyle renditions of some timeless classic anthems such as Gigi D’Agostino’s L’Amour Toujours (I’ll Fly With You) and Kim Wilde’s Cambodia. Of course, there was room for remixes for some Dutch tracks including Snollebollekes’ Links Rechts and PartyfrieX & Schorre Chef’s Ik Moet Zuipen. Ending on a high note, Hardwell closed it out with some aggressive uptempo which completely squeezed out the energy from everyone present.

In July of last year, Hardwell was honored by the city of Breda with the truly special title of an honorary citizen of Breda. Describing his hometown as a vast inspiration throughout his career, he was evidently moved by the surprise the major of Breda laid at his feet when he was taking the stage at Breda Live. Load the tape almost a year later and the Dutch titan still shows his neverending love and appreciation for the city that massively impacted his seemingly ever-expanding career.
