Releasing music on the most well-renowned of labels, and garnering support from the elite of our community, Peter Brown has been leaving his own legacy, and with experience on his side, fans alike are in for a treat during his electrifying live performances. Ranging from Deep House to Tech House and everything in between, Peter Brown is rightly considered as a true pioneer of House music, and we in turn, could not be any more thrilled to be joined by this legendary act, as he discusses main inspirations and influences, how his signature sound came to be, the changes he experiences on the daily and how he adapts to the scene, his latest single ‘Wanna Be In Love‘ and so much more.

Hello and thank you for joining us! Could you provide us with an insight on the main inspirations/influences that led to your chosen career pathway in music?

“I started music at a very young age, playing the cello at the age of five for about ten years at the conservatoire in France. When I was a teenager, I joined a rap group and started out as a DJ. I soon moved into electronic music. And it was in 97 that I started to get into Djing in clubs.”

With your sound ranging from deep house to tech house, could you talk us through the origin of your style of play and how you adapt to the constant changes within the dance scene?

“In fact, it has to do with the influences and the music I’ve always listened to, which ranges from classical music to rock, funk, disco and hip hop. So, obviously, in my music, there’s a bit of all these influences. That’s why it can go from something very deep or more disco or more tech house or more hypnotic. I always try to diversify my productions a bit.”

Garnering support from some of the biggest names in the dance scene, as well as releasing music on the most well-renowned of labels, we would like to know the experience you have gained along the way, as well as any challenges that you had to deal with whilst reaching the top?

“Throughout my career, there have been many people who have led me down one path or another. There’s also the fact that I left France and moved to Barcelona, where I’ve been living for 20 years now, which opened the doors for me to get to Ibiza… And it wasn’t easy. And then, in fact, it’s always about challenging yourself. And above all, there was a lot of work behind the scenes to get to this point.”

Performing at some of the biggest venues worldwide, we would like to know how you prepare for each set, as well as any tips or hints that you may have for aspiring acts that aim for an illustrious career within the dance scene?

“In fact, I don’t really prepare my sets. I try to adapt to the club, to the people I’m playing to, to the capacity of the venue, to the number of people in the room. Obviously, if there are fewer people, I’m not going to play the same set as if the venue was full. There are all sorts of factors that mean that I’m not particularly keen on preparing my set.”

With the dance scene constantly evolving, could you provide us with your own thoughts on the forthcoming changes, and how this will impact artists like yourself?

“Let’s just say that I started out with vinyl, then we moved on to MP3. I don’t really know what’s going to happen to be honest… Obviously, there are platforms like Spotify or Apple Music that play our music, but the income is a lot less than it was back then, today it’s not as easy to make a living from music.”

With over 20 years of experience, and with a music catalogue for the ages, could you talk us through you latest track, the main thought process behind its creation, as well as the overall message that it sets out to portray?

“So the production of my latest track ‘Wanna Be In Love’ on Brook Gee Records is full of influences. I wanted to have that electro 80s influence, but at the same time keep that piano house style, which I think blends really well together. And that’s something I hadn’t really done before, and I have to admit that the result is quite surprising, I really like it.”

Reaching audiences all around the world, your music resonates directly with the listener. We would like to know the overall feel each listener can get from you music, and in particular, from your most recent release?

“Enjoy and dance!!”

With summer season in full flow, we would like to know what the future holds for Peter Brown, always in terms of new music and live performances?

“Well, right now I’m in the process of finishing four tracks that should be ready soon, so we’ll have them for this summer. And I’m going to be in Ibiza, my residency in Barcelona at Hotel W, also in France, so the summer’s looking good! More TBC.”

Remarkable in every sense of the word, we will be keeping a close eye on Peter Brown and all his future endeavours within the dance scene, but for the time being, you can stay fully up to date by following him on Facebook, Instagram and Spotify!
