With the summer months and festivities truly kicking off, individuals worldwide will be trying to craft the perfect playlists for a wide variety of events and travel. A new study has dissected which songs and artists are most popular for this time of year to serve as the soundtrack of the summer.

Crafting the perfect summer playlist is a huge responsibility and certainly can dictate the energy and vibe of any road trip or gathering. Although not everyone shares the same musical tastes, there are certainly artists and songs that are more universally beloved and represented amongst listeners the world over. The popular travel site, Miss Tourist, conducted this new research and looked to determine which artists and songs showed up the most when reviewing playlists with tags such as ‘travel’, ‘vacation,’ and ‘road trip.’

In what feels like a fitting top choice, Calvin Harris’ classic hit Summer was the most popular choice for summer and travel playlists. he is the sole artist to appear twice in the top 10 as his single Feels So Close holds down the number 8 spot. Joining Harris for the top 10 singles are classic hits like Riptide by Vance Joy, Mr. Brightside by The Killers, and Time Of Our Lives by Pitbull. Newer hits from Sabrina Carpenter, Declan McKenna, and Taylor Swift also are included in the list of singles.

The research also reviewed which artists are most common to be found on these summer-themed playlists. Calvin Harris remains a major force on this list but takes second place to Taylor Swift. The rest of the list features Pitbull, Coldplay, and Drake rounding out the top 5. The rest of the list sees some of the artists from the singles list as well, such as Sabrina Carpenter, Vance Joy, and Declan McKenna being joined by Avicii and the Arctic Monkeys.

Discussing the research, Miss Tourist founder Yulia Saf stated:

“Music can be a powerful tool to enhance your travel experience in several ways. Firstly, it can significantly reduce stress, making it an ideal companion for anxious travelers, especially those who find flying nerve-wracking. Listening to music can soothe the mind and ease the stress associated with travel.

Secondly, music has the ability to make time pass more quickly. This is particularly beneficial during long journeys, as it helps to distract and entertain, making the hours seem shorter and the trip more enjoyable.

Lastly, research suggests that music can have tangible physical benefits, such as lowering blood pressure and improving sleep quality. For those looking to rest while traveling, whether on a flight or a train, picking some of the more chilled and soothing songs from the playlist is a great way to facilitate relaxation and promote better sleep, leading to a more comfortable and restful journey.”
