After the release of The Weeknd and Daft Punk’s mega collaboration “I Feel It Coming” hit the airwaves back in late November, both parties gained an exceptional amount of attention for their work. With The Weeknd’s “Star Boy” hitting the top of Billboard’s charts, to Daft Punk performing live at this year’s Grammy celebration, it seems both have been able to extend their vision upon viewers worldwide. With so much commotion behind their futuristic branding, I’m sure we all were curious to see how their music video for “I Feel It Coming” would turn out.

Director Warren Fu describes the piece as, “A love story in a cursed land”. Using ideas from his memory, Fu was able to tell the story of two forbidden lovers whose romance inevitably causes their demise. This Space-like tale was taken from bits and pieces of old movies and photographs; two in particular, Medusa from movie Clash of the Titans, and an old photograph of a frozen victim reaching out during Pompeii’s eruption (79 A.D.). When asked how he prepared The Weeknd to mimic the shot, Fu states- “When I was on set with Abel [The Weeknd], I said, ‘Reach out your hand in this way like you’re yearning for something, as if God has turned his back on you.” The music video incorporates futuristic aesthetics and, of course, a cameo appearance from the French duo at the end.
