Rewind back to last September and an excited Hailee Steinfeld shared her discussion with Swedish producer Alesso on releasing their track ‘Let Me Go‘ for her fans who had been in the waiting. Since the release, the collaboration has proved a successful hit with over a combined 200 million streams and plays across Spotify and YouTube. Three months on Billboard caught up with Alesso and the DJ detailed how the collaboration went down.
“It’s kind of an unexpected collaboration. It doesn’t really make any sense, but the song turned out to be great so it made sense, I guess, and people seem to really like it and that makes us really happy.”
Alesso recalls how the track first came to life when the music producer received an email from singer and songwriter Andrew Watt who had worked on a track with Ali Tamposi.
“I loved it right away,” Alesso said. “I started working on it, I sent it back two, three days later, [Watt] literally called me right away and showed up to my doorstep, was freaking out how much he loved the new version I made.”
Both Alesso and Andrew began to discuss vocal artists who would feature on the track and it was then when Andrew suggested Florida Georgia Line. Blown away by the fresh sound of the duo’s vocals Andrew then recruited their mutual friend Hailee Steinfeld.
