Brazilian producer Alok experienced one of many people’s worst nightmares this weekend, as the plane he was travelling on crash-landed into a ravine during take-off. The aircraft was set to take off from Serrinha airport in Juiz de Fora, Brazil, but upon reaching the end of the runway, it failed to take off, causing it to run straight into a ravine just ahead of it. Nearby footage has shown the plane stuck in the ravine at a 45-degree angle with smoke billowing from the front of the aircraft, but thankfully all passengers and cabin crew were able to escape unharmed.

Alok took to Instagram to explain what was clearly a traumatic experience, as he and fellow passengers made their way away from the scene in the immediate aftermath. Out of breath and understandably shaken, he told fans: “We are all fine, I can only thank you, thank God”, before explaining that he feels “born again on May 20, my second birth. Everyone, I went to take off here, our plane…” He then trailed off as he struggled to get his words out, whilst in a later video, a fellow passenger could be heard crying nearby.

Alok, whose full name is Alok Achkar Peres Petrillo, is from Goiânia, Brazil and is known for his distinctly fiery take on house music. He has reached renowned success for his multiple hits including his heavy, mysterious original with Sevenn titled “BYOB”, and he has performed on the Axtone stage and Mainstage at Tomorrowland. The video below shows Alok’s full Instagram video following the accident, where thankfully no serious injury was caused. He also took to Facebook to express his gratitude.
