Bringing an innovative single to the table is always a tricky task for aspiring young producers who are looking to make it big in the industry. And while bigger artists enjoy the unfounded luxury of being able to churn out the same sound again and again, the young talents are always looking for that new impressive production sound that will help them break into the limelight. Taking on that very uphill task is Greek producer George Koutalidis, better known by his Up High moniker, who has showcased a high grade of talent in his latest releases such as ‘Now I Know‘ and a remix for Martin Garrix and David Guetta’s latest track ‘Like I Do‘.

Having released his latest track titled ‘Don’t Matter‘, the Athens based producer is looking to further stamp his credentials in the scene with the chirpy release. Aside from the latest release laying a brilliant blueprint for the career ahead, Koutalidis has admittedly made it a point to make 2018 a year of more music from his production desk.

Here is Up High in and exclusive conversation with We Rave You.

Tell us about the origin of your music. How did you discover your sound?

Since a young age I really enjoyed the sound of the piano and creating bright and happy melodies. I believe music is a mean to convey emotions and those sounds give an uplifting vibe which may lead to a happier state. Later on, when I was introduced to the club scene I fell in love with fat bass sounds. Either techno, or bass house, or anything with a big kick and bass-line. That’s where I found my sound, most of my tracks evolve around bass lines and kick-drum patters.

Who do you consider to have been your biggest influences throughout your career that have made an impact on your productions?

Throughout my career I’ve had the chance to meet some people that have really helped me and inspired me. Last summer I had the chance to spend a few days with Regilio, Kryder and Ace2Ace. Since the day we met, we have been exchanging music and the feedback I have been receiving has really helped me. Another big influence of mine is CID. Other than having the luck of spending a few days with him as well, songs like ‘Werk’ and ‘Sweet Memories’ really inspire me.  Lastly, a lot of my songs are influenced by old-school hip-hop tracks and it is very easy to notice. In most of my tracks I tend to introduce break-beats every now and then.

Your latest release ‘Don’t Matter’ is simply incredible. What inspired you to create the track? Could you tell us the story behind the track?

‘Don’t Matter’ was created the summer of 2017 while I was touring the Greek Islands. You just get this amazing energy, vibe and feeling while on any of the Greek Islands and I think this track perfectly describes this feeling, especially if you have someone to take with you!

Take us back to the creation of your mesmerizing electronic 2016 track ‘Now I Know’, which was a collaboration with Dropstadamus featuring Project Nightfall. Could you tell us the process of the track? What were the inspirations behind this one?

For this track I really need to give credit to Dropstadamus. He hit me up with this sick idea and then we got to work. The amazing instrumental combined with the soothing voice of Project Nightfall created this amazing future bass track. The feedback and support as this was my first release has been really motivating.

If we look at your musical catalogue, all your productions have different sound and style, ‘Now I Know’, ‘U Are’, ‘Get It’ and your most recent one “Don’t Matter’. How do you create such varying sounding tracks while maintaining your signature sound?

Although most of my tracks fall in the Bass House/Future House/House category, I do not like restrain my creativity. I do not think there is anything wrong with just creating what you feel like. That’s why every now and then I like to release a track a bit different than my usual sound.

What are some of your plans for the rest of 2018? Any follow-ups? Upcoming singles?

Since the beginning of 2018 I have been working really hard to produce some quality music. So far I have about 8-9 ID’s ready to hit the road and many more are on the way. There are quite a few surprises in those IDs. Also, don’t forget to check out my new single ‘Get It’ which was released on May 14th by ENSIS Records and my brand new remix of “Like I Do” by David Guetta, Martin Garrix & Brooks, which was just released.
