“The guilt of the accused was not in doubt, and the accused himself admitted to it…In addition, the accused in the court’s judgment honestly regrets the deed he has committed. For him, it is also a great tragedy, though not as great as for the victims.”
Tom Swoon sentenced to roughly 5 years behind bars
Ex-DJ/producer Dorian Tomasiak aka Tom Swoon has finally been sentenced in connection to his fatal DUI conviction. The 25-year-old Pol was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months behind bars for the fatal accident that took place roughly eight months prior. In conjunction with the charge, Tom Swoon also received a lifetime restriction from driving and a 50 thousand PLN fine for civil and personal reparations onto the victims which equals out to approximately $13,500 USD.
The case which was heavily disputed in court, saw the prosecution upset with the final ruling as they deemed the punishment felt inadequate per the crime. Although ungranted, the prosecution initially sought out an increased amount totaled to roughly $16,000 USD in reparations for the families involved and an 18-month tack-on to the nearly 5-year prison sentence. Tomasiak never denied or disregarded blame for the fatal accident as he maintained an extremely emotional demeanor throughout the sentencing. In an open statement from Tom Swoon, he addressed the driver of the vehicle he struck saying,
“I don’t remember much that day. I remember that I was in my room, and then for a long time nothing, until the handcuffs were on my hands and I heard that I had killed a man…Knowing that I’ve taken a person’s life is the greatest punishment that could have happened to me. I am not even able to ask for it, but I apologize to you wholeheartedly,”
