To many, Avicii will always be considered as the greatest producer of all time. Spawning an iconic back-catalogue of hits from the comfort of his Stockholm studio, the DJ (real name Tim Bergling) completely changed the dance music scene as we know it; becoming a global figurehead and icon for the rise of ‘EDM’ globally. Though Tim – who sadly passed away in April 2018 – is best known for tracks like ‘Wake Me Up, ‘Seek Bromance’ and ‘Levels’, it was on this day in 2013 that he released one of his most fondly loved anthems.

‘Hey Brother’ was – initially – met with mixed reviews, with some criticising the track for containing heavy elements of country, western, and blues, elements – but such was the midas touch of Avicii, the Swede was always one step ahead of his public, and within weeks – if not days – the track was soaring to huge success globally. Becoming a firm fixture in his live sets, ‘Hey Brother’ embodied the emotion of a live Avicii performance thanks to those swelling vocals and hugely addictive melody. Not a day goes by when we don’t think about Tim, but thanks to tracks like this, he will never fade into darkness.
