With an extensive relationship with BBC Radio 1 – which includes the ‘Diplo and Friends’ series and Essential Mix -, Diplo has been entertaining listeners on the station for over a decade now. Always ahead of the trends when it comes to what’s popular in electronic music, he is arguably one of the most versatile artists in the game and now he’s joining in on the fun of creating an end of year mix. This mix isn’t only an end of year mix though, it’s a celebration of the best of the entire decade titled ‘Best of the Decade Mix’.

First aired on 21 December in the late hours of the night (around when extended DJ mixes are usually aired), it contains two whole hours of the best and most recognizable tracks that have defined a decade in electronic and commercial music. As you might expect, this mix covers nearly every electronic genre – a testament to Diplo’s extensive knowledge within the scene – through some of the leading artists across a massive 55-track tracklist.

Starting off in true Diplo fashion, he opens up with one of his tracks ‘C’Mon’ which is a collaboration between him and Tiësto released at the start of the decade in 2010. Going off to explore the commercial side of dance/pop music, artists like LMFAOKaty PerryBeyoncéRihanna and way more are included. Including his own Avicii tribute of sorts, three tracks by the Swedish legend are played in a row for an emotional but energetic and euphoric segment.

It’s impossible to list every artist featured in this decade mix, but fans of progressive, commercial, dubstep and way more will enjoy this mix a lot. The mix is available on the BBC Radio 1 section of the website (for 21 days), or on Mixcloud right now.
