Icarus, the duo of brothers Tom and Ian Griffiths, has been making waves with their distinctive blend of melodic electronic sounds. Today marks a significant milestone in their career as they release their sophomore album, aptly titled “Change,” under Fly Boy Records. Before the album’s release, Icarus released their single ‘Every Part of You.’ This downtempo house track not only showcases their production prowess but also features the captivating vocals of singer-songwriter Julia Church. The single provided a preview of the sound that ‘Change’ would delve into.

When it comes to a bigger project such as an album, we’ve found that unearthing a theme in the early stages can really help us focus and find our path through the creative process. The theme around this Album is ‘Change’, and all the feelings and emotions that come along with that. The frustrations of a current situation, the anxieties of an uncertain future, all the way through to a gradual clarity that comes with taking time to reflect and becoming confident with who you are and where you are. Almost a process of ordering what was once chaos. The record represents where we’ve been, where we’re at, and where we’re going.

Icarus’ influence extends beyond the studio, as evidenced by their recent masterclass at We Rave You Tech’s first offsite event for ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event). This event provided a unique opportunity for fans and aspiring producers to delve into the technical and creative aspects of Icarus’ music, gaining insights into their innovative approach to electronic music production.

“Change” stands as a compelling testament to Icarus’ artistic evolution, venturing into deeper, more emotive sonic realms. Comprising meticulously crafted tracks developed over the past year and a half, the album promises to be a showcase of Icarus’ refined blend of melodic house and techno. The journey begins with the concise yet evocative “The Only Constant,” setting the stage for what’s to come.

Immediately following is the track “Change,” which starts on a light note with harmonious piano progressions and delicate hi-hats. Gradually, tension mounts, leading to a gritty breakbeat drop. The album offers a dynamic blend of tracks that span the spectrum of house and breaks genres. Some, like “Dominoes,” are heavy club bangers, while others, such as “Every Part of You,” harken back to Icarus’ earlier melodic deep house sound.

Lead singles like ‘Last Night Felt Like The Future’ and ‘Forever’ offer a glimpse into the sonic journey undertaken by the duo. Icarus has crafted not just an album, but a narrative of growth and exploration. The melodic arrangements, coupled with rhythmic precision, create an immersive experience that resonates with the listener. Striking a delicate balance between nostalgia and innovation, Icarus has sculpted a sonic landscape that feels both comfortably familiar and refreshingly new.
