The three-episode musical documentary, Disco: Soundtrack of a Revolution by BBC Studios is out now on BBC iPlayer.

The first episode in the series Disco: Soundtrack of a Revolution, which explores the 70s music scene, has just aired on BBC Two. Like everything else, disco has a history, a piece of which is presented in this three-episode series.

“Everything that happened at the Stonewall that night happened because people were dancing.”, said DJ Nicky Siano about the birth of disco.

Co-produced by BBC Studios Specialist Factual Productions and PBS, a new documentary series dedicated to the music of the 1970s has been released. The documentary was entitled Disco: Soundtrack of a Revolution. In addition to the historical threads, they show how this subculture evolved and became what we know today from several perspectives. And of course, a music series cannot be complete without music to represent the whole phenomenon, so there will be no shortage of that. The three-part series features interviews with music greats including DJ Nicky Siano, Honey Dijon, Kim Petras, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, François K, and many others.

The first episode of Disco: Soundtrack of a Revolution premiered on BBC Two on 16 December. The other two episodes will run on the channel on the 23rd and 30th of December. However, all three episodes (1. Rock the Boat, 2. Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now, and 3. Stayin’ Alive) are now available on BBC iPlayer so that you can watch the 1-hour episodes on the official site. Spoiler alert, you can read a detailed report and review by The Guardian.

In conclusion, the BBC Studios and PBS have put together a fascinating piece of work. This, in a unique format, helps us to look at how and where disco culture developed and how it has become the dance industry that we can now look at anywhere in the world thanks to the internet.
