Massive Attack has revealed plans to take the stage in the UK for the first time in half a decade. The iconic trip-hop group will look to unveil new methods of decarbonization for the live music industry throughout the August event.

Having never shied away from their activist roots, the members of Massive Attack are continuing to showcase their commitment to Earth-friendly, carbon-neutral practices for the entertainment industry. The iconic group had hoped to stage such a performance earlier in Liverpool, but the concerns of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the group’s opposition to an arms’ event being held at the same venue, forced them to reschedule. Now they have unveiled August 25th for their UK return to the stage as they will entertain crowds at Clifton Downs while revealing a collaboration with climate scientists and analysts from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

“In terms of climate change action there are no excuses left; offsetting, endless seminars, and diluted declarations have all been found out – so live music must drastically reduce all primary emissions and take account of fan travel.” -Massive Attack

The members of Massive Attack promise to showcase an event that offers a 100% renewable energy-powered site, a rail incentive initiative, a meat-free arena, free post-show electric shuttles to main rail hubs, a 100% zero to-landfill waste removal, and the promise to create “a new climate resilient woodland plantation in the South West region.” It is a huge undertaking but a mission that the group has always been focused on addressing.

Aptly titled Act 1.5, the event name is derived from the Paris Accords’ attempt to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees C, and the city of Bristol is the first in the world to commit to the pledge of helping maintain this with live events. Massive Attack will reveal special guests and performers as the event draws closer, but fans can currently obtain their tickets at the official Act 1.5 website.
