Best in Music Technology & Studio Design: 2024 TEC Awards Announced
The winners of the prestigious Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards were announced last night, recognizing the year’s most innovative new audio products and studio designs across 23 categories. The TEC Awards have highlighted technical achievements in audio for 39 years. The 39th Annual NAMM TEC Awards returned to Southern California, on Saturday, January 27 as part of The 2024 NAMM Show.
Universal Audio took home honors in four categories this year. Their Volt 476P Audio Interface won for Computer Audio Hardware for its high-resolution audio conversion. The UAFX MAX Dual Compressor won in the Signal Processing Hardware category. Universal Audio also won the Amplification Hardware/Studio & Sound Reinforcement category with the Atmos & Immersive Audio Support added to their Apollo x16 audio interface. Hitsville Reverb Chambers won the Signal Processing Software (Effects) award.
Apple won two TEC Awards for their Logic Pro digital audio workstation(DAW) software. Logic Pro for iPad won Audio Apps & Hardware/Peripherals for Smartphones & Tablets for bringing comprehensive music production capabilities to tablet devices. Logic Pro for Mac v10.7.8 took the top prize in the competitive Workstation Technology/Recording Devices category.
Other multiple award winners included Sony Electronics, Sennheiser, and Genelec. Sony’s MDR-MV1 Reference Studio Headphones took Headphone/Earpiece Technology honors. Sennheiser’s EW-DX Evolution Wireless Digital Microphone Systems were recognized in the Wireless Technology category. Genelec won Studio Monitors for their 8381A SAM Adaptive Point Source Main Monitor.
Some category highlights included Rupert Neve Designs winning two TEC Awards—Microphone Preamplifiers for the Newton Channel and Production Essentials for the RNDI-8 active transformer DI box. Solid State Logic took Large Format Console Technology with their advanced ORIGIN 16 console. Allen & Heath won Small Format Console Technology for the feature updates in their dLive CTi1500 digital mixing system.
On the studio design side, the Studio Design Project category was awarded to WSDG for the Rue Boyer Studios – Mix with the Masters facility in Paris, France. This high-end mixing and mastering studio complex focuses on immersive audio and courses for aspiring audio engineers and producers.

As technologies converge, this year’s winners highlight the accomplishments possible when hardware manufacturers, software developers, and studio designers work across disciplines to create new solutions.
