With the legacy and legend of Daft Punk firmly in place, its members are free to explore new projects and avenues now that they have taken off the robot helmets. Thomas Bangalter is now returning with his second major release since the dissolution of the group.

Since Daft Punk announced their break-up, the members have remained relatively elusive, a trend that certainly feels on brand for Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo but music has been slowly trickling out from each member. While Guy-Manuel resurfaced in 2023, doing production on Travis Scott’s latest album UTOPIA, Bangalter has steered clear of the popular music scene. His first post-Daft Punk project allowed him to showcase his classical music skills while providing the orchestration for the ballet and album of the same name, Mythologies.

For his second solo outing, he will be providing the score to the upcoming film Daaaaaalí!, directed by French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux, perhaps better known in the electronic music scene as Mr. OIZO. The film initially debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year and will hit French theaters on February 7th. The soundtrack will be released the same day and fans can order a limited 10″ vinyl of the work right here. Thomas Bangalter has some experience scoring films as he and Guy-Manuel famously scored Tron: Legacy under the Daft Punk moniker.

Watching Thomas Bangalter spread his musical wings outside of Daft Punk and provide the soundtrack to ballets and movies is an exciting path as the producer continues to explore new projects.
