Last year was the most fruitful of Adam Beyer’s career. Holding on to that flame, the Drumcode boss starts 2024 in full force with the release of a powerful three-tracker. ‘Let’s Begin’ is already available on the main streaming and download platforms, via Drumcode of course.

This EP is new, but it’s a beautiful ode to Drumcode and Beyer’s original sound. Drawing inspiration from major techno festivals such as Awakenings and Time Warp, Adam Beyer manages to capture nostalgic sounds and give them a contemporary makeover. For this three-track work, the Swedish artist takes influence from ’90s Drumcode releases, 2000s Frankfurt, UK hard dance, hardcore and some other vintage sounds to create an incredibly engaging piece of work. About this unique journey through time, Adam Beyer says:

“This new three-tracker is on the rawer techno tip and is an ode to Drumcode’s earlier material. It’s a take on the ‘90s sound blended with new modern elements. For this release I wanted to take the Adam Beyer techno sound from that period and bring it up-to-date. It’s dirty with a new twist, direct and to the point. This project is not a statement, rather it’s a release that was inspired by the big techno shows I played in Europe this autumn like Awakenings, Mayday and Timewarp.”

The title track opens the EP at a slightly more frenetic pace than you might be used to if you don’t remember Beyer’s early work. But despite being cooked at high octane, ‘Let’s Begin’ is full of dynamic elements that give it thickness and melody. It beats at a fast tempo, ready to make any heart beat faster. The vocals evoke hypnotic rhymes that go very well with the percussion.

Without lifting his foot off the accelerator comes ‘Computerized‘. This track has a more urban character and hardcore-inspired vocals. The ride, although here embellished with some typical 90s Berlin techno sounds, retains that signature taste of contemporary Beyer.

The EP closes with ‘Red Room’, the most melodic of the three tracks. Its melody is dreamy, more in the style of 2000s trance. But this mystical atmosphere is punctuated with a sharp percussion that is brightened up with very metallic sounds. The groove is less deep and more reflective, drawing inspiration from UK hard dance.

It’s hard to pick a favourite among these three fine specimens. We recommend that you listen to them all, over and over again, here below:
