PinkPantheress credits GarageBand after Billboard names her Producer of the Year

As access to professional equipment, more powerful computers, and file sharing have reshaped the way music is made, more and more producers earn success on their terms. For Billboard’s latest Producer of the Year, PinkPantheress, she credits a standard Apple program for her career arc.

Rising the ranks to earn her breakout in 2021, PinkPantheress was just one of thousands of bedroom producers whose skill and talent extended far beyond the confines of her studio. As her single Pain has racked up nearly half a billion streams on Spotify, the industry can’t help but take note of her immense ability in the studio. At just 22 years old, the English singer and producer has made a home on the UK Top 40 charts and worked alongside global stars such as Skrillex, Ice Spice, and Lil Uzi Vert.

Now PinkPantheress is being honored by Billboard and will receive the 2024 Producer of the Year award from the esteemed organization. Discussing the impact of the young producer and the importance of recognizing women in the field, Billboard’s Editorial Director Hannah Karp states:

“Women are still seriously under-represented among the producers making today’s top hits, so we’re grateful to our partners at Bose for helping spotlight talented artists like PinkPantheress who are producing and inspiring a new generation of women to get behind the boards, in addition to wowing fans their fans as performers on stage.”

In response to the honor, PinkPantheress took to social media to give thanks to GarageBand, the native Apple DAW, for helping her hone her skills through the years. While she rarely gives behind the scenes looks into her process, she has given small snippets of video to TikTok, in collaboration with Apple, showing her working in both GarageBand and Logic Pro for her creation process.
