The Dutch musical duo Tinlicker continues to showcase their brand of melodic beats and percussion as they deliver their third full-length album in five years. Featuring a wide array of collaborators, the album was an opportunity to evolve their own production style while expanding upon their sound.

Consisting of members Micha Heyboer and Jordi van Achthoven, Tinlicker has grown exponentially since the duo first came together back in 2013. Now with the release of their third full-length album, Cold Enough For Snow, they have found new ways to challenge themselves while still crafting a beautiful and melodic landscape of sounds and styles. The album starts powerfully, as vocalist Julia Church joins the duo for the incredible opening production and lead single, Glasshouse. Discussing the nature of working with Church as well as the other guests on the album, Tinlicker stated:

“When we work with a specific singer we always want to know what they like so we can ensure they’ll like the collaboration as much as we do. During the creative process we’ll always check in with the artist and see if they like the direction we’re taking. But every song is different. Sometimes we just have a rough sketch with a few chords that we send over and the end result will be totally different, sometimes we send in a track that is close to being finished, but just needs that right vocal.”

Beyond collaborating with vocalists and producers for 9 out of the 13 tracks, Tinlicker also looked to refine their own studio process. Challenging themselves to find new ways to work and avoid relying on synthesizers and past processes, gave them the opportunity to think outside the box in the creation of the new music:

“The challenge for this album was to create as much as possible with just audio files and samples. And use less soft synthesisers. These are ‘rules’ we create to keep things interesting for ourselves, or to come out of the comfort zone. So where we normally use a synthesiser we tried from time to time to find a sample. And the sample could come from everywhere; even from voice notes on a smartphone.”

Out now via [PIAS] Électronique, Tinlicker has once again crafted a collection of songs that can be as physically driving as they are emotionally moving. Be sure to listen to Cold Enough For Snow below or purchase a physical copy via the group’s official website.
