Audio-Technica reveals $4200 ATH-AWKG headphones

Audio-Technica has built a reputation for itself by providing quality headphones to the market at an affordable price. Now the brand is looking to extend further into the high-end space by releasing a new $4200 headphone.

With a history dating back to 1962, Audio-Technica has decades of experience in the audio field and has continued to evolve and develop products that stand out while adapting well to changing technology and workflows. For the company’s latest release, they have looked to the Japanese thunder god NARUKAMI for inspiration and discovery as the team developed an incredible, handmade design. Relying on these concepts, the company has revealed the powerful new ATH-AWKG headphones, revealing a staggering attention to detail and quality that is further reflected in their $4200 price tag.

Design features

Continuing to pay homage to the Japanese culture and motif, the exterior of the headphone is designed with KUROGAKI wood, a wood steeped in mysticism and then engineered for enhanced sonic abilities. While the outer shell is clearly a thing of beauty, the ATH-AWKG’s earn their hefty price tag thanks to the incredible audio components housed within. Complete with 53 mm drivers that feature highly efficient German Permendur magnetic circuitry, they are further enhanced by a 6N-OFC (high-purity, oxygen-free copper) voice coil to ensure a pristine listening experience. Furthermore, the D.A.D.S. (Double Air Damping System) works to divide the housing chamber into two separate acoustic chambers, helping to achieve a more accurate bass response.

Finally, the earpads and arms are crafted to ensure extended comfort and listenability, whether in the studio or on the go. The arms and earpads are crafted from a soft sheepskin fabric but the product also comes included with a pair of ZMF Universe Hybrid earpads for an alternate listening experience. Audio-Technica designers also paid close attention to the headphone input, adding a A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) jack that works with both included cables, a 6.3 mm (1/4″) gold-plated stereo plug as well as a 4-pin XLR-M balanced connector.

Housed within a beautiful KUROGAKI wood display case, Audio-Technica has raised the bar for quality and appearance with the launch of the ATH-AWKG headphones.
