Plastik Funk & Rave Republic give Bellini’s ‘Samba de Janeiro’ a fresh remix: Listen

One of the most magical elements of music is how certain songs and melodies become timeless, bringing together listeners across generations as a song continues to impact fans new and old. Plastik Funk and Rave Republic have come together to breathe new life into one of the most classic melodies in dance music.

First released back in 1997, the German pop group Bellini crafted Samba de Janeiro as a Latin-infused burst of energy and joy that quickly reached the top of the charts throughout Europe. Thanks to its inclusion throughout global events such as the 2008 UEFA European Championship tournament, the track has only grown in stature and reverence in the years since its release. While edits, remixes, and mash-ups of the tracks have been constructed throughout the past 27 years since its release, Plastik Funk and Rave Republic have now come together to give the track a Mainstage-ready makeover.

When initially crafted by Bellini, the track maintained a distinct island feel, providing a loose aura to supplement the infectious melody and rhythm. Taking on the challenge of crafting a version for the modern electronic music scene, Plastik Funk and Rave Republic chose to begin their update by crafting a foundation of modern synths and percussion, ensuring that fellow DJs will be able to easily mix their release into their own sets and mix shows. The familiar vocals and horn melody are infused shortly thereafter, blending the generations and styles seamlessly throughout. From that point, the track only grows in stature and energy, interjecting a bit of nostalgia with an infectious new layer of production and style that will continue to transcend generations.
