New research finds House is the ‘most popular club genre’ in the UK
By a website called A2D2, new research finds House music is the “most popular club genre” in the UK
Based on data compiled so far, 1st Jan 2024 – 31st December 2024, new research finds House is the “most popular club genre” in the UK. The analysis was carried out by A2D2, a company that manufactures a device that connects analog music players to smart speaker systems
An event-based research by the website A2D2 revealed that house is the number one genre in 9 out of 16 UK cities. Naming these, the following cities put the genre at this point: London, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds, Brighton, Bristol, Liverpool, Cardiff, and Edinburgh. This is based on a list of events filtered for the period 1st Jan 2024 – 31st December 2024, which A2D2 discusses in more detail in its research. This essentially means that, according to the 2024 data, 2,203 events in the UK were based on the House genre ahead of all other genres.
Techno, which has been in the hands of almost every popular artist, is also showing good results. According to events, not far behind House, the 1,375 figure is also outstanding. Newcastle, Belfast, Glasgow, and Aberdeen can be said to be obsessed with Techno. And data from Birmingham shows that it has the “most versatile taste in England’s club music scene”. Here, drum & bass, an emerging genre on a global scale, has become the top genre. City of Dundee, a port city on the Firth of Tay in the east of Scotland, is the most popular for the Disco genre.
It’s also interesting to note that Trance is very popular in Scotland, making it into the top 5 club genres in two of their cities. And of course, trance is still a popular genre worldwide. No question, as an example, Push’s iconic trance classic “Strange World (2000 Remake)” recently climbed back on Beatport charts.
