Home Music Porter Robinson bares his soul on new single ‘Knock Yourself Out XD’: Watch

One day after officially revealing the artwork and release date for his highly anticipated third album, Porter Robinson has delivered the project’s second single. Much like the album’s first release, Knock Yourself Out XD was released simultaneously with the music video.

Opening up with the blunt reveal of life as a superstar, Porter Robinson sings, ‘I threw my phone into the sea, simple human being, wouldn’t know how to brush my teeth, without asking my team.’ The second offering from his upcoming album Smile! 😀, the American producer continues the electro-pop-stylings of his previous single, Cheerleader, while detailing his own shortcomings. On Knock Yourself Out XD, Robinson continues to be the star, using his voice perhaps in its most natural form that he has ever put to record. It creates a brightness and accessibility to his works that was at times to feel, especially when he was singing to machines back on his brilliant debut album, Worlds.

Underneath the shine of the vocals, Porter Robinson has crafted a pop-infused gem of a production, complete with driving percussion and bright, swirling synths. Fans of Robinson who have been tracking his career since his monumental dubstep debut on Owsla know to expect the unexpected from the producer and Smile! 😀 certainly appears to be yet another tonal shift.

The accompanying video also dropped today, showing Porter Robinson in a variety of outfits, singing and dancing upon a plexiglass platform. While his genius and talents in the studio have never been in doubt, Knock Yourself Out XD is further confirmation that this may be the most fun era of Porter Robinson’s storied career.
