Welcome to Bootshaus: #5 Club in the world

Germany is a country synonymous with electronic music, especially techno and hardstyle, but not exclusively. For many years, the enigmatic Berghain was the biggest icon of German clubbing, but times have changed. The musical epicentre has bled out of Berlin and reached new cultural centres and venues. Cologne’s Bootshaus is now the best club in Germany and the fifth best in the world. Two more good reasons to visit this superclub, but there are many more.

In 1996, under the name Warehouse, it was considered the first cult techno club outside Berlin. Located in the city’s shipyard district, this club gained more and more fans due to its raw and real culture, a true cult of music. It was in 2005 that it was renamed Bootshaus, which literally translates as boat house. Those premises, which today vibrate with bass, once used to be a storage and repair facility for boats. Bootshaus has been at 173 Auenweg, 51063 Köln, Germany since 2012, when businessman Fabian Thylmann became its owner.

Bootshaus can accommodate around 2,000 people and lots and lots of music. The space is divided into three iconic rooms: the mainfloor, BLCKBX and Dreherei. The latter is equipped with a state-of-the-art Funktion-One sound system, while the BLCKBX boasts a powerful, crackling Seeburg Audio sound system. The sound system is undoubtedly one of Bootshaus’ great attractions. Its top-of-the-range equipment satisfies the discerning ears of music lovers, who find this superclub a veritable temple of worship for techno, hardstyle, psytrance, dubstep and much more EDM. The cabins are equipped to the same high standards, ready to welcome the leading names on the European and international scene.

Technology is one of the veins of the Bootshaus, one of the first clubs to appear in the metaverse during the pandemic, the Bootshaus XR. Much of the superclub’s reputation has been built on the various club brands and parties such as BLACKLIST, Nibirii, Chrome Cologne, Unreal and Deepblue that make up Bootshaus’ ever-busy calendar.

This year is all about celebrating. Not only is the Bootshaus celebrating its 20th anniversary, but it has also reclaimed its place in the top 5 best clubs in the world in this year’s DJ MAG poll. To celebrate, and to thank the public for all the support they’ve given and continue to give, they’re throwing another killer party. On the 8th of May, starting at 10 pm, the party will take place at Bootshaus with a 5IVE event, tickets are €5.
