Home Tech Mixing using Focusrite Pen? Video goes viral on Instagram

A bizarre video of an Instagram user, David Frick went viral on the platform that shows him attempting to mix vocals using what appears to be a standard pen, except it has the Focusrite brand printed on the barrel.

In the short clip posted to Instagram, a hand can be seen drawing EQ curves directly onto a piece of notebook paper, dramatically cutting the subs while slightly boosting the low mids on what is presumably meant to represent the vocal track. The hilarious video quickly went viral, racking up more than half a million views and thousands of comments from confused and amused viewers.

Fan Reactions

The comments section did not disappoint, with fans chiming in with all sorts of witty and sarcastic remarks. One user joked “Bro got that PaperEQ plugin fr” while another asked “No high end?

Some seemed to play along with the premise, like this comment: “Bro has the focusrite pen. Yeah new way of mixing vocals we got the eq going on we uh we taking out the low end, we taking out some of the mid.

Others poked fun at the extreme EQ moves, with one saying “Bro took out way too much mids fr lol” and another stating “Mids too muddy.

A few comments referenced the pen’s supposed premium quality, like “Bro, does this pen even support 192khz 24bit?“.
