Apple Announces ChatGPT Integration
At WWDC 2024, Apple announced deep integration of OpenAI’s advanced ChatGPT language model across iOS & macOS.
This integration will provide powerful AI-assisted capabilities for content creation, question answering, and more – all while maintaining Apple’s stringent privacy standards. Apple’s virtual assistant Siri will now be able to leverage ChatGPT’s latest GPT-4 model when users need enhanced conversational and analytical capabilities. Siri will ask for consent before sharing queries with ChatGPT, and suggestions from the AI will be seamlessly returned.
One of the most exciting aspects is the integration of ChatGPT into system-wide writing utilities for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Users can leverage the AI to generate all kinds of content like stories, scripts, essays and more with a simple prompt. ChatGPT can even create custom imagery to accompany the AI-generated text.
Maintaining its leadership position on privacy, Apple has designed this ChatGPT integration with security as the top priority. There will be no login or account creation required to use ChatGPT, and Apple will not log any requests or information sent to the AI model.
The ChatGPT capabilities will roll out later this year as part of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia software updates. Apple also revealed plans to integrate other best-in-class third-party AI models across its platforms in the future.
