Acclaimed New York City-based electronic musician, producer, and activist Moby has released his long-awaited 22nd studio album, Always Centered at Night, now available everywhere. To celebrate, Moby will perform live across Europe and the UK this September, marking the 25th anniversary of his landmark album Play. Consequently, tickets are on sale now.

Always Centered at Night stands out even among Moby’s diverse discography. Notably, the album features 13 collaborations with a mix of well-known and emerging artists. For instance, the lead single, “Dark Days,” showcases soul-jazz singer-songwriter Lady Blackbird, whose deep, alluring vocals drive the rhythmic track. Moreover, other notable collaborations include serpentwithfeet on the hauntingly beautiful “On Air” and the late dub poet Benjamin Zephaniah on the break-beat-driven “Where Is Your Pride?”. Furthermore, Moby expressed his admiration for Zephaniah, saying, “As a vegan activist and a wise and compassionate man, Benjamin inspired me for many years. I hope that ‘Where Is Your Pride?’ honors his legacy and draws attention to his life, work, and principles.”

Diverse Voices and Musical Discovery

The album also features other remarkable voices, such as Sudanese, Netherlands-based chanteuse Gaidaa on “Transit,” London-based Burundian royal refugee J.P. Bimeni, and Kingston-raised, London-based Aynzli Jones. Always Centered at Night extends the project Moby announced in 2022, inspired by the eclectic New York record shops he frequented in the late 1980s. This project allowed Moby to collaborate with unique writers and vocalists, creating songs that reflect the spirit of musical discovery.

Moby, a connoisseur of vocal timbre and texture, has always sought new and exciting voices. Whether sampling artists like Bessie Jones, Vera Hall, or Boy Blue on Play, or collaborating with superstars like David Bowie, Ozzy Osbourne, and Britney Spears, Moby continues his relentless pursuit of unique vocal talent. He discovers voices through various means, from YouTube and Spotify to karaoke bars in Lower Manhattan.

Moby’s Ongoing Legacy, Activism and New Film

Always Centered at Night features a variety of electronic music styles from the past 30 years. For instance, tracks like the trip-hoppy “We’re Going Wrong” with Brie O’Banion, the broken beat “Medusa” with Aynzli Jones, and the Latin house “Feelings Come Undone” with Raquel Rodriguez showcase the album’s diversity. Additionally, other collaborations include José James on “Ache For” and Akemi Fox on “Fall Back,” contributing to over 15 million collective streams across platforms.

Moby will embark on his first tour in over a decade, celebrating Play, which includes classics like “Porcelain,” “Natural Blues,” and “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?“. The album sold over 12 million copies worldwide and became the biggest-selling electronic album of all time. Tickets for select dates, including a newly added show in Lausanne, Switzerland, are on sale now. Several dates have already sold out, and 100% of his tour profits will go to European animal rights organizations.

A multi-platinum-selling, award-winning artist, and vegan activist for 35 years, Moby also released his directorial debut Punk Rock Vegan Movie through his production company Little Walnut. The film explores the relationship between punk rock and animal rights, featuring interviews with some of the biggest names in punk and rock history.
