When Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii committed suicide in Oman, he was only 28 years of age. The dance icon from Sweden decided to end his life while on vacation in the Middle East. A few days after his passing, Avicii’s family released an emotional statement letting friends and fans around the world know how much the support in this hard time meant to them. We will all remember Tim as one of the most humble and down-to-earth personalities in the industry and now details are emerging that he donated millions of dollars to charity.

Avicii’s net worth was around $85 million, which is amongst the highest of all DJs and producers. But Tim was never someone who spent money on useless things, and instead, was most certainly a giver for those in need:

“I discovered when I started making money that I didn’t really need it. When you have such an excess of money you don’t need, the most sensible, most human and completely obvious thing is to give to people in need.”

Avicii donated around $1 million to Feeding America, after his ‘House for Hunger’ tour in 2012. He also donated another €1 million to Radiohjälpen, a Swedish organization that collects money for helping people around the world. Anna Hedenmo, a famous Swedish news reporter, also took the chance to thank Avicii for all his generous help:

“Rest in peace Tim Bergling and THANK YOU because you laid the foundation for Hunger Help with your generous contribution – 1 million euros – to Radiohjälpen.”

Tim Bergling’s legacy, full of inspiration, great music, and generosity will be remembered forever. His selfless actions, even whilst struggling with mental illness, should be a wake-up call for all of us. As his loss continues to be felt around the globe, fans around the world continue to mourn the Swedish star. Last week in Amsterdam, DJs continued to pay tribute to Avicii, remembering his contributions to the music industry and the world.
