Legendary DJ and producer Steve Aoki has had a formidable first half of 2018, releasing a number of successful tracks. One of the most noteable being his banging collaboration with legendary DJ and producer Laidback Luke, ‘It’s Time’, featuring Bruce Buffer and a UFC-themed music video, successfully following up on their anthem ‘Turbulence’ together with Lil Jon back in 2011. Aoki has also collaborated with Vini Vici on ‘Moshi Moshi‘, a unique track featuring elements from psytrance and Kawai styles, as well as a guest appearance from Mama Aoki. He’s also worked on a dance-pop crossover ‘Pretender‘, together with American rapper Lil Yachty and AJR. The amount of music he’s been releasing is truly impressive when you consider his relentless touring schedule, which is only going to get more hectic as festival season gets underway.
Most recently, Steve Aoki decided to remix the song ‘Girls‘ by Rita Ora, Cardi B, Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX. The original song, considered a sequel to Charli XCX’s single ‘Boys‘, was criticized by other artists for trivializing the experiences of gay women; ultimately, Rita Ora apologized for unintentionally causing harm. Having previously spoken about the release describing it as an empowering anthem, Rita Ora states:
“These past few years I’ve been so inspired by all the strong women I’ve seen who aren’t afraid to be themselves. For those who aren’t afraid to rule the world, this is our anthem. A celebration of love. And of course, thank you to all the fellow boss women who so kindly graced this song with me”
Aoki’s remix, available through Atlantic Records UK, gives the track an irresistible summer groove and vibe, making it perfect for all the upcoming festivals and proving once again that he is a true master at pleasing crowds.
