Avicii – SOS (Laidback Luke Tribute Remix)

While the loss of one of the greatest dance music producers of our times was a hard one to take for the music community and fans at large, Swedish DJ and producer Avicii‘s sudden demise was an incident that clearly affected Dutch DJ and industry veteran Laidback Luke in a personal way. Luke had been the one who mentored the young Tim Bergling through his famous online forum and gave Tim a platform to express himself on the stage as well as on the charts with release of ‘Ryu’ on Mixmash Records. Prior to Avicii’s demise, Laidback Luke had quite ominously penned his thoughts in 2016, raising red flags for the industry after seeing the pressure that touring was putting on the now globally renowned Swede. While he had last expressed his thoughts regarding Avicii through a special vlog, the Dutchman is back to the charts to pay tribute to Avicii through a thoroughly enjoyable remix of the latter’s first posthumous release ‘SOS’.

Essentially a collaboration with American singer and songwriter Aloe Blacc, Avicii’s ‘SOS’ was released in April as a single from the upcoming posthumous album titled ‘Tim’. In the hands of masterful Laidback Luke, the original gets rendered into a sumptuous, melody-laced production that is quite eerily reminiscent of the sound that helped Avicii build his path toward stardom. A chirpy, upbeat single which features a positive undercurrent by way of its lyrics and overall energy, Laidback Luke’s tribute remix is one that is quite a throwback to a sound that seems lost in time – possibly someplace in the radio-waves of 2012. An essential for any dance music fan, this tribute remix is exactly as they should be – its Laidback Luke re-imagining the original through the life and sound of Avicii.
