After last week’s Pioneer announcement of the DDJ 200, a new entry-level controller, Pioneer DJ is back with another announcement and a pretty unique collaboration with Virgil Abloh. It is not the first time Japanese multimedia giant is releasing a special version of their two best selling products, but together with the American fashion designer, Pioneer DJ is again giving DJs a very pretty and unique piece of equipment: a see-through CDJ-2000NXS2 and DJM-900NXS2. And the best thing about them, they even light up in the dark! Based on the website Abloh wanted to give a new look and feel to the industry standard, without labels and see-through design.
“As a means to give a new look and feel to the industry standard of the CDJ and DJM I aimed to design a see thru and non-labeled rendition of the classic models to inspire a different sound while DJing. And perhaps a new way for music technology and human interaction to equal a different result.”
Both, the CDJ-2000NXS2 and DJM-900NXS2 in their reimagined look can be viewed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago where the designer during Ablohs “Figures of Speech” exhibition from June 10th until September 22nd. This is only part of the exhibition where Abloh “transcends industries, connecting music, fashion and architecture”.
