YouTube accounts with 2+ years of inactivity will not be deleted, Google confirms

In response to a recently released statement that insisted on the permanent deletion of YouTube accounts that were inactive for the past couple of years, Google has just confirmed that it will not be going ahead with this decision anymore. Several concerns were raised that led to the announcement, including the fact that accounts responsible for original and rare music would have been lost along with their uploaded content.

As per the new policy, only the inactive YouTube accounts belonging to personal entities will be affected, the ones belonging to companies and groups would still remain active. Google states that this change is intended to reduce the number of dormant accounts vulnerable to hacking and spam activity. The policy is scheduled to take effect at the end of 2023. Under the new policy, accounts that have not been used or logged into for at least two years will be at risk of having all their content deleted. This will affect various Google services, including Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar), and Google Photos.
