Gregor Tresher‘s new two-tracker is available via Cocoon Recordings.

Gregor Tresher is one of the most legendary names in the history of contemporary German techno. His musical signature is unique, distinctive and solid, and perhaps that’s the great secret to the longevity of his success. Tresher began his career in the early 90s, a fertile time for music. A major staple in the techno world, Gregor Trecher developed a sound that spreads through the intricacies of trance and deep and melodic techno. Apart from all these names and concepts, what is undeniable is Tresher’s masterful touch in the studio. His music is mature, elegant and meticulously crafted. ‘A Thousand Nights‘ remains one of his best-loved hits today, but so many others have followed. His latest work is ‘Black Halo‘, a two-tracker EP available on the usual platforms via Sven Väth‘s legendary Cocoon Recordings.

The quality of Tresher’s productions is not surprising, but it is absolutely superb. Both the tracks that make up the EP are covered in the German producer’s typical magic. This EP is considered to be perhaps one of Gregor Tresher’s catchiest tracks, but aren’t they all? These are undoubtedly special.

The title track ‘Black Halo’ is wide-ranging, filling the space in seconds. Highly progressive, it offers an uncontrolled flurry of loud cymbals combined with a torrent of laser synths. It is modern and somehow nostalgic elements hypnotise listeners, driving them into a state of high trance. ‘Black Hole’ is undoubtedly an ode to raves, clubbing culture and music lovers. The dynamic musical mesh touches on feelings such as melancholy yet in a very uplifting way. It’s exuberant and highly addictive.

Phantom Dancer‘ has a totally different character to ‘Black Halo’. Much less contemplative, it emphasises rhythm. The pace is fast, like a festive rush to dance. ‘Phantom Dancer’ is ready for the floor, offering some curious crashing beats. The melody is complemented by low-pitched filter vocals that open the door to a deep involvement with the track.

It’s another brilliant piece of work by Gregor Tresher. A conceptual, artistic EP with the German producer’s elegant signature. It’s a heavy and rich addition to the Cocoon Recordings catalogue. Listen to this new EP below:
