Home Tech Yamaha expands upon MONTAGE M with Expanded Softsynth Plugin

Yamaha has been a leader in piano and keyboard technology for decades now, a name synonymous with the instrument across all musical genres. Never one to rest on its laurels, the company is continuing to expand its offering and has unveiled an exciting new digital component to its Montage M line-up.

Last year, Yamaha revealed that it would be discontinuing its popular MONTAGE synthesizer from the market, and delivering an updated new release, the MONTAGE M to meet the needs of modern-day artists and producers. Fast forward to NAMM 2024, and the team at Yamaha is continuing to push the boundaries of their MONTAGE line, now focusing on the digital aspect and preparing to release an Expanded Softsynth Plugin, or ESP for short. While it’s impossible to fully replace the feel and inspiration that comes from playing a physical synthesizer, the digital ESP will allow MONTAGE users to access the sounds and components of the instrument from anywhere.

The new ESP will also contain a variety of updates that Yamaha is introducing across the entire MONTAGE M product line-up. Most exciting is the new AN-X synth engine, a powerful invention that helps to further recreate the warm analog sounds of past synths, while also providing several parameters and adjustments for users. These new controls and parameters will be included in the ESP software as well, allowing endless creative possibilities while in the studio.

Helping workflow and ease of use, the team at Yamaha has created an additional display to help users navigate the many exciting features of the synth. As the company continues to expand upon what the MONTAGE M synth can do, they are recognizing not just the functions of the synthesizer, but also the importance of the user’s workflow, one of the many reasons, Yamaha continues to be a leader in the marketplace.

The initial release, set to be offered in early 2024, will be exclusive to owners of the physical MONTAGE M units, producers and other interested parties will certainly keep their fingers crossed that Yamaha will make it available to everyone in the future.
