Spotify appears to be readying a Spanish-language AI DJ

The evolving musical landscape that has emerged has seen digital streaming platforms, or DSPs take over as the main way audiences digest music. With Spotify leading the way in the streaming music realm, the service is continuing to work on pushing out new content and features to help enhance the listening experience.

Early in 2023, Spotify looked to elevate its offerings by revealing that it would be launching an AI DJ into the platform to help curate playlists and moods for listeners. Utilizing advanced technology, the Spotify DJ utilized the voice of Xavier “X” Jernigan to build DJ X to help navigate the release. While truly exciting, the launch was limited in its language capabilities as it was strictly offered in the United States and Canada and could only speak English. Now the streaming platform is working hard to expand the product with a new Spanish-speaking AI DJ.

Although the new upgrade is not currently available, Spotify did not deny its work after a veteran reverse code engineer discovered the new concept being developed:

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests aimed at letting users express themselves through the music they love. Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as important learnings. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”

While there are no further official updates from Spotify, the leak did reveal the ability to change the AI DJ’s language from English to Spanish as well as be accessible to fans in Mexico for the first time. Another exciting find was a slight tweak to the DJ’s name, which was launched as DJ X but it appears that the new code has it operating as DJ Liv.
