Audio-technica Launches Ultra-High End Narkumani Line

Audio-Technica has launched the Narukami line, and it’s not for the faint at heart. Targeting the high-end customer, the HPA-KG Naru integrated tube amplifier and ATH-AWKG headphones have been carefully engineered to mark the brand’s 60th anniversary.

Audio-Technica launched in 1962 out of Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Originally manufacturing phonograph cartridges, the brand has built an incredible reputation over the years for its ability to create some of the best consumer audio products on the market. The 60th anniversary Narukami line carries on this legacy.

Meticulously designed the line to deliver the highest level of audio quality possible. The name “Narukami” references the god of thunder in Japanese culture.

Comprised of Kurogaki wood panels and rock garden-inspired aesthetics, the HPA-KG NARU utilized nature as an integral reference point in its design. The unit can be used as a speaker preamplifier or headphone amplifier. Audio-Technica carefully crafted a fully balanced system with left and right channel power transformers. 4 Takatsuki TA-300B vacuum tubes help power the amp driven by ECC83S tubes to amplify the input signals. While the unit is capable of transmitting supreme audio quality, the HPA-KG NARU retails at a staggering USD 108,000.

The ATH-AWKG headphones carry on the aesthetic as the ear-cups are crafted out of rare Japanese kurogaki wood. The ear-pads are made out of sheepskin, and the headband arms are built out of magnesium alloy. The headphones pack 53mm drivers featuring titanium flanges, powered by oxygen-free copper voice coils. The ATH-AWKG can articulate 5Hz to 45KHz at 2,000 mW (48 ohms). These incredibly powerful headphones clock in at USD 4,200.
