You Can Now Take Down AI Generated Content on YouTube

Home Tech Tech News You Can Now Take Down AI Generated Content on YouTube

YouTube has recently rolled out a new policy allowing users to report and request the removal of AI-generated content that impersonates them.

As AI-generated content can now deliver more convincing fake videos and audio, this move by YouTube was well-needed.

Key Points of the Policy:

  1. Users can report content that uses AI to create a realistic altered or synthetic version of their likeness.
  2. The policy applies to both visual and audio impersonations.
  3. YouTube will evaluate removal requests based on several factors, including:
    • Whether the content is clearly disclosed as AI-generated
    • How realistically the person is depicted
    • If the individual can be uniquely identified
    • The presence of any parody, satire, or public interest elements
  4. Special consideration is given to content featuring public figures or well-known individuals, especially if it depicts sensitive behaviors like criminal activity or political endorsements.

This policy aims to protect individuals from unauthorized use of their likenesses while balancing concerns about free expression and creativity. It’s important to note that not all AI-generated content will be automatically removed. YouTube will assess each case individually, considering factors such as artistic merit, newsworthiness, and whether the content is clearly labeled as synthetic.

Instagram also recently rolled out a feature to mark a post as AI-generated. Platforms like YouTube & Facebook are adapting policies to address new challenges in content moderation and user protection. Users who believe their likeness has been misused in AI-generated content on YouTube can now use the platform’s reporting tools to request a review and potential removal of the offending material.
