TikTok expands music streaming service to Australia, Mexico, and Singapore

Home Uncategorized TikTok expands music streaming service to Australia, Mexico, and Singapore

In recent years, TikTok has revealed itself as more than just a social media application and often a tastemaker for styles, sights, and sounds from some of the most exciting new artists and creators around the planet. The team at TikTok recognizes its role in curating art and content and has launched several projects to help support and boost its users including a streaming service that is now being beta tested in three new countries around the globe.

While TikTok has quickly become a global leader for social media content and creators, its role in the music industry has been unique as it allows artists to upload snippets of songs and other creators to utilize the sounds to help enhance their own content. Recognizing the need to properly support artists as well as create a functional user platform, the social media application is looking to create its own streaming service which it hopes will compete with the likes of Apple Music and Spotify. Currently, the new features are being beta tested in Brazil and Indonesia, with Australia, Mexico, and Singapore set to be the next regions to have access to the new functions. With TikTok Music, users will be able to access full versions of song edits, utilize a “Shazaam style” feature to find music, create collaborative playlists, and comment on songs.

“TikTok Music is a new kind of music service that combines the power of music discovery on TikTok with a music streaming service offering millions of tracks from thousands of artists.”

While the rest of the world awaits an update on when their country will have access to the new features, TikTok has recently announced a licensing agreement with Warner Music as well as a new program called Elevate which is designed to provide a platform and resources to upcoming musicians. It is exciting to see how TikTok is innovating to help artists and will certainly provide an update when TikTok Music reaches more countries.
