Travis Scott’s recent “Circus Maximus” stadium tour had an award-winning mixer running the show. Ken “Pooch” Van Druten, who won the 2024 Parnelli Award for “FOH Mixer of the Year,” chose to mix the tour using Waves plugins with the Waves SuperRack SoundGrid system.

Van Druten’s setup included a DiGiCo SD12 96 console, a Mac mini running Waves SuperRack, Waves plugins like the Pro Show bundle, and some extra audio gear like a Neve processor and an Oven amp simulator.

For the tour, some of Van Druten’s go-to Waves plugins were:

  1. C6 and F6 – These are like Swiss Army knives that smooth out harsh frequencies from sources like the DJ.
  2. API 2500 – This adds punch to drums and percussion.
  3. PSE (Primary Source Expander) – This cuts out stage noise from vocal mics in a special way.
  4. Scheps Omni Channel 2 – An amazing, flexible channel strip that sounds great.
  5. CLA-76 – The classic 1176 compressor sound on vocals, snares, bass, etc.
  6. CLA Epic – A fantastic effects tool with studio reverbs and delays in one.
  7. SSL EV2 Channel – Great channel strip for drums, guitars, vocals.
  8. Silk Vocal – Quick way to sculpt and enhance vocals.
  9. X-FDBK – Emergency tool to kill feedback instantly when the artist moves near speakers.

Van Druten says Waves plugins are crucial to his workflow, providing warmth, depth and his “secret sauce” for great live sound. The flexibility and quality of Waves allowed him to mix Travis Scott’s massive stadium show successfully.
